Since summer is slowly coming to an end, I have been wearing as many bright colors as possible before fully transitioning into full-on fall mode.  I found this pretty little gem at H&M in Atlanta and instantly fell in love.  It reminds me of something Elle Woods would wear it, because we all know that professional women can be both successful and stylish.. and wear lots of pink along the way!  :-)

This dress was perfect to wear to dinner in Ormond Beach.  I paired it with my gold sequin clutch for an evening out in Ormond, but switch over to a nude bag for the work day.  I love finding unique, feminine dresses that I can wear for any occasion!

ABA vs. Non-ABA Accredited Law School

Legally Blonde, Elle Woods, law school, lawyer blog

I have gotten quite a few emails here lately from future law students asking about the differences between ABA (American Bar Association) vs. non-ABA accredited law schools.  This is a interesting one and I will do my very best to weigh the pros and cons.

First of all, what does this even mean and why does it matter??  In a nutshell, this means that if you attend an ABA accredited law school, you can sit for any state's bar exam and practice, whereas there are some restrictions if you attend a non-ABA law school.  All states recognize graduation from ABA-approved law schools as meeting the legal education requirements for eligibility to sit for the Bar Exam, but some states will also allow students who attended non-ABA law schools to take their Bar.  (For more info on this, ask your law school dean, the Secretary of State for the state that you are considering moving to, and check the ABA website).

I have outlined some pros and cons for ABA and non-ABA law schools below, but first, let me put things in perspective.  I went to Nashville School of Law ("NSL"), a wonderful, non-ABA law school and I passed the Bar Exam on my first try.  Our program is four years and we had evening classes so that we could work during the day.  I worked in our law library as a law librarian (haha) as well as for a local attorney.  Also, our dean sat on the Tennessee Supreme Court for years and we have an all-star faculty of very well-known judges and attorneys.  So, why did I choose non-ABA?  In addition to the reasons listed below, one of the main reasons is that I do not want to practice law in the traditional sense my whole life.  In fact, I want to do other things with my degree that do not involve going to court or giving legal advice every day, but I plan to keep my license active.  Another major reason I chose non-ABA, is that I do not want to leave Tennessee.

There is no right or wrong answer here, but here are a few pros and cons to consider:

Pros: Non-ABA law school
-Lower costs- I have ZERO STUDENT DEBT and it is an amazing feeling!!
-Professors are practicing attorneys and sitting judges so they are very up-to-speed and very connected
-Strong ties in the local community
-Excellent local name recognition
-Strong alumni network
-Time to work (and try various internships) and network during the day

Cons: Non-ABA law school
-Longer program- typically four years instead of three
-Evening classes
-Degree may not carry the same prestige as an ABA degree (FYI: no one ever asks me where I went to law school, but if they do, I am very proud of my alma mater!)
-Limited in licensing- i.e. may not be able to practice in another state right away (check ABA website)
-Sometimes lower bar passage rate
-Some have elitist educational attitudes and think ABA is the only way to go
-Sometimes, fewer choices for electives (I wish NSL had more creative electives to choose from when I was there, but they have added a lot since I graduated)

Pros ABA law school
-Not limited in licensing and can sit for any state's Bar Exam
-Three years instead of four
-Local and sometimes national name recognition
-Strong alumni network
-More electives to choose from

Cons ABA law school
-COST- could have $120,000+ in student debt
**Side note: I have so many local attorneys tell me that if they could go back, they would have gone to NSL because they are still paying student loans in their 50's.  I'd rather spend that money on traveling! :-))
-Not allowed to work 1L... which does not help accruing student loan debt
-Not all professors have practiced law- some have never stepped foot inside of a courtroom

What's the verdict??  There is no right or wrong answer, other than you have to do what's best for you.  If you are not sure where you want to live long-term and think you might move to a different state, it might be better to go to an ABA law school.  Something else to consider, is what type of law you want to practice.  If you want to do some form of highly specialized intellectual property or entertainment law, I'd pick a school with a curriculum that really focuses on those areas, which would most likely be ABA-approved.  With that being said, however, you can always go to Continuing Legal Education ("CLE") courses after you graduate, so keep that in mind!

I hope all of this makes sense and answered your questions!!  Feel free to email me or leave any questions you may have in the comment section below!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a wonderful weekend!!

Good morning, I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!  We are still in Ormond Beach and are having a great time.  I could get used to life on the beach!

Today, I am wearing one of my favorite purchases from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ("#NSale"), this Topshop stripe midi skirt.  This is the perfect summer skirt and I cannot stop wearing it.  I love the asymmetrical faux wrap design, combined with the beautiful blue and white classic stripe pattern.  Also, I love the pockets for a more contemporary, but still classy and put-together feel for day or night.  As if the skirt were not enough, there is also a matching stripe crop top that would be cute paired with the skirt for a night out.  What do you think?

Thanks for stopping by... I'm headed back to the beach for now!

Gold Office Decor

Good morning, I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  I am at Ormond-By-The-Sea, Ormond Beach, Florida this week.  The weather has been perfect and we have had some amazing seafood so far.  :-)

Today, I've rounded up an assortment of gorgeous gold office accessories and decor for a stylish work space.  I love all things black, white, gold and acrylic at home and at the office.  If you are like me and spend a majority of your time at the office, why not make it an enjoyable space?

Which ones are your favorites and where are your go-to office decor stores?  How do you keep your office looking chic?

Happy Friday, TGIF!!

I am so excited about today's blog post featuring eyelash extensions by Shala Williams, Licensed Aesthetician and Certified Lash Artist, right here in Nashville.  When Shala first contacted me about trying them, I was a little hesitant because I have never had professional eyelash extensions before.  I absolutely love them!

I have always admired eyelash extensions on other women, but was not sure how they would look on my very fair skin.  Another concern I had was my job.  I am around attorneys and elected officials all the time and told Shala that I could not roll into court looking like Niki Minaj or Miss Piggy with ginormous jet black, in-your-face falsies.  Haha!  Shala is so nice and easy to work with (and she is a total hoot).  Since this was my first time, we opted for a more natural looking and slightly lighter shade of lashes that would not be so overwhelming with my skin tone and that would be both office and court appropriate.  I am officially hooked!

The procedure takes about two hours.  I felt totally relaxed while she worked her magic and ended up falling asleep.  Oops!!  I woke up to a flawless set of lashes, cue Beyonce "I woke up like this..."  No, but seriously, Shala did an amazing job- I am very happy with my eyelashes!

My favorite thing about eyelash extensions?  Not having to wear mascara!!  These eyelash extensions have drastically cut back on the amount of time it takes me to get ready each morning.  I still wear eyeshadow if I have an event, but no mascara (or eyeliner for my upper lashes), which is a glorious feeling and a huge time-saver that any busy #girlboss can appreciate.  The eyelash extensions last about four weeks, so they are totally worth the investment.  Not to mention, they are so easy to take care of- all you have to do is brush them with a lash wand each morning (Shala will give you one) and you are ready to go!

Nashville friends, Shala is running a special right now for Lawyer Lookbook readers for a full set of extensions for $120 (regularly $220).
Ladies, take it from me, you will absolutely love eyelash extensions and deserve to pamper yourself!  For more information or to book your appointment, you can go to her website at www.styleseat.com/shalawilliams, or contact her via email (williams.shala@yahoo.com) or by phone at (615) 349-5633.  Also, you can see more of her work by following her on Instagram @beautybyshala.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Has anyone else ever had extensions?

This past weekend, my mom and I ventured down to the beautiful Batey Farms to visit the famous sunflower field and snap a few blog photos (it was 100 degrees outside).  If you live in Middle Tennessee, you must go ASAP because it is absolutely amazing!  There are literally sunflowers for days!

White is one of my favorite colors to wear in the warm summer months due to its versatility.  A simple white lace dress is perfect for any summer occasion and can really make a statement, whether you dress it up or down.  I love this classy Ann Taylor scalloped lace dress in white because of its simplicity and delicate detailing.  Of course, being Southern, I love anything lace, so this dress was a must for me.  I have certainly gotten a lot of mileage out of it this summer (remember this post?), but, summer is not over yet.  For this post, I paired it with these gorgeous dainty cuff bracelets from Helen's Jewels.  I have been on the hunt for the perfect pearl cuff bracelet, and I absolutely adore this one!  Both of these bracelets are perfect to add to your arm party and are even more beautiful in person.

Good morning!

This weekend I attended the official kickoff party for the Nashville Fashion Alliance at Imogene + Willie as a proud founding member.  International supermodel Karen Elson performed along with several special musical guests.  It was a wonderful event and a lot of people came out to show support!

The Nashville Fashion Alliance ("the NFA") is a nonprofit organization of like-minded creative professionals dedicated to building a sustainable and globally recognized fashion industry through advocacy, economic development, resources and education.  The NFA's mission is to provide designers and industry professionals with necessary infrastructure and support via shared networks and workspaces, streamlined production, as well as funding, operational, and administrative capacities, while at the same time creating new jobs right here in Nashville.  Earlier this year, the NFA launched a kickstarter campaign in hopes of reaching $100,000.00 to get the ball rolling, but thanks to everyone joining together as an alliance, more than $109,000.00 was raised, totally exceeding the initial goal.  This is a very exciting time for Nashville and I cannot wait to see what happens in the near future!

For more information, be sure to check out www.nashvillefashionalliance.com, and follow the NFA on Instagram and Twitter @thenashvillefa.

Happy Friday!  If you have been following along, you know it's no secret that I have a major obsession with shirt dresses as of late.  Exhibit A: this chambray shirt dress.  Exhibit B: this sleeveless pink shirt dress.  I am always on the go and love how easy they are to throw on to tackle the day, while also transitioning nicely from summer to fall.

This Ann Taylor striped linen shirt dress is a new favorite of mine.  I love the lightweight linen material because it is not only comfortable, but definitely appropriate for your summer work wardrobe.  Also, you can style it several different ways.  For example, you can leave the sleeves alone, or you can roll them up and button them at the elbow.  Either way is cute.  It is a little loose and lengthy on me (I'm 5'2"), but still very flattering thanks to the self tie belt.  As if that were not enough, it is also on major sale right now, so definitely check it out!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great weekend!
