I love shopping for pieces for my home office.  I spend a lot of time in my home office, so I definitely want it to be a place of inspiration, yet reflective of my personal style.  I love black, white and gold together because it is such a classic and timeless color combination.  I am obsessed with this white desk and white chair together for a chic and modern office.  Not to mention, how fun is this Girl Boss paperweight??  It is the most perfect desk accessory and would make such a cute gift!

One of my favorite fall trends for the office is the classic silky wrap blouse.  I am constantly on the hunt for unique and ladylike pieces to incorporate into my work wardrobe, and this wrap blouse absolutely fits the bill.  I love how feminine, versatile and flattering this dusty blue blouse is.  You can wear it with a skirt, trousers, or jeans, day or night.  I love the silky, smooth, crepe-like fabric, and the fact that it is machine washable.  To top it off, I love pairing it with this pretty pearlized twist statement necklace.

What to Expect the First Day of Law School

I love hearing from readers!  One of my sweet readers is about to start law school and emailed me asking what to expect for the first day.  I will do my best to answer that question in today's post. 
The first day of law school is a nerve-racking experience.  The days and weeks leading up to day one are filled with anxiety and the fear of the unknown.  What will your professors be like?  Do they really expect you to read, brief and actually understand everything on the syllabus before you step foot inside the classroom? What should you wear??  What all do you need to bring to class??  So many questions...

What I remember about my first day of law school...

We had orientation beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the big auditorium.  Our class started with 120 students and there were no extra seats.  Everyone was nervous and had no idea what to expect.  We had several hours of speakers, vendors and other sales pitches before our first-ever lecture.  By this point, our eyes were totally glazed over and we were wondering what we had gotten ourselves into and if it was too late to turn back. Fortunately, our professor did not call on anyone to brief.  Although, he asked for volunteers, at which point a majority of the class looked down and avoided eye contact at all costs.  
Spoiler alert: professors expect you to read every assignment prior to day one and to be ready to brief if called on. Some are understanding and know that you have absolutely no clue what you doing as a new 1L, but others get a thrill out of humiliating new students.  

What I Wore For My First Day of Law School
As far as what I wore, I kept my outfit simple on day one.  I wore jeans, a white button-down and heels (see above).  Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident, but steer clear of any bright colors or patterns, unless you want to stand up and brief each lecture...  This happened to me 3 weeks in a row in 1L Criminal Law, so I started wearing mostly black to avoid standing out and that worked. Ha!

What I took to Class
What I took to class on day 1: my laptop, planner, syllabus, a notepad and pen/highlighter, case printouts along with textbooks, and my Tervis.  After the first couple of weeks, I rarely brought my textbooks with me because they weighed so much (plus, you don't have time to open them because you are so busy frantically taking notes). I recommend recording your first few lectures so you can go back and make sure you don't miss anything important.  You can take a tape recorder, or, record it on your computer.  

Looking back, day one was not so scary.  The fear of the unknown and having absolutely no idea what to expect is the worst part, but after a few classes, you will have a routine down.

I purchased this Ann Taylor pineapple lace pencil skirt earlier this summer as a part of a matching set.  I love just about anything blush pink, and the pineapples are so cute for summer.  I love wearing the matching set for more formal occasions, as seen here, or, styling this skirt with a pretty patterned top, as seen here.   The blush pink lace is so elegant and sophisticated, yet very modern and versatile.  For today's post, I opted for a more laid-back look by pairing it with this casual white top.  As you can see, the styling possibilities are endless!

Vera Bradley Welcome Party
Vera Bradley hosted a fabulous welcome party in the Belmond to kick off the three-day conference in Charleston.  Bloggers and brand representatives came together and enjoyed light bites, bubbly and great conversation.  This was one of my favorite events.  It was so nice to finally meet blogger friends I had been following on Instagram over the last year.  Everyone was so nice!

Conference
Day two of the conference began at the Riviera with four amazing speakers.  Lindsey Humes from White Oak Creative spoke about how to audit your brand.  Next, Amy Flurry, author of Recipe for Press spoke about pitching to brands. Then, Sarah from rewardStyle spoke about liketoknow.it and how to win at Instagram.  Finally, Victoria from In Style Collective spoke on how to find your voice.

Networking Suite
After lunch, we had a networking event and had the opportunity to mix and mingle with about 20 different brands including Kendra Scott, Cosmedix, Wayfair, It Cosmetics, and Moon & Lola, to name a few.  

Moon & Lola had an amazing charm bar and we had the option of creating a charm bracelet or necklace.  I made a charm bracelet with my initials and threw some big pearls and  rhinestones on it to make it more "me".  It is so cute!  We also went to the Moon & Lola store on King Street and I found the prettiest gold tassel necklace.  If you ever go to Charleston, be sure to check out their store- it is so cute!!

The conference was held at the Belmond in the downtown Charleston hotel district.  There are so many cute shops and restaurants inside the Belmond and everything is top-notch.  I absolutely love this staircase and chandelier.

Breakfast with Kendra Scott
Off to breakfast with Kendra Scott!  We enjoyed a nice spread in the Palmetto Cafe before attending a morning packed with blogger workshops.  I attended one on photography, liketoknow.it and a Founders Workshop hosted by The Blog Societies founders, Jessica and Cathy.  I loved the workshops and learned a lot.  I wish we could have gone to all of them!  In addition to those workshops, there was one on accounting, SEO and rewardStyle.

Cosmedix Luncheon
Cosmedix hosted our final blogger luncheon and talked all things skin care, and brought some of their newest skin care products for us to preview.  The anti-aging cream works like a charm!

Charles Henry Floral Shirt Dress

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  For today's post, I am wearing quite possibly my favorite shirt dress in my closet.  I wore this shirt dress day two of The Blog Societies Conference in Charleston, and it kept me cool and comfortable for a full day of conference and exploring downtown.  I am a huge fan of Charles Henry's dresses, and his summer collection certainly does not disappoint!  This floral shirt dress is absolutely gorgeous in person- the colors are so bold and beautiful.  I also love the fact that it is so light and airy because it was so hot and humid walking all over downtown Charleston.

Back to School Basics

It's that time of year again... back to school time!  I have always loved the first day back to school, and the thrill of a new academic year.  It's a fresh start and a new beginning.  New school supplies, new friends, new classes, everything is new and exciting.  One sure way to start school off on the right foot is by investing in some classic back to school basics that will give you the confidence you need to bring your "A-game" in style.

Let me preface by saying that you don't have to spend a fortune to look your best.  In fact, all of these items are less than $100, most under $50.  You will want to invest in a few timeless staple pieces that you can mix and match year-round.  For example, this striped shirt ($19) is the perfect layering shirt that will look great no matter the season, plus, it is super comfortable for those long hours of lectures and library time.  A classic blazer for presentations or interviews is also great to have on hand.  I like this blazer because it is tailored and less than $40, which is a bargain.  Of course, you also need a stylish and durable tote to carry the essentials in between classes.  I love this tan tote for under $25.  It looks like a Tory Burch bag, but is a fraction of the cost!  Finally, I am a stickler for pearls.  I have this pearl necklace ($32) and wear it all the time.  I wear it with casual outfits as well as more dressy looks, and always get a lot of compliments on it.  It is also a great layering piece.  I love to put a crystal necklace underneath to give it a little extra sparkle.  What are your favorite back to school basics?

5 Easy Ways to Save Money

1. Pack a Lunch
One of the easiest ways to save money is by packing your lunch for work.  If you think about it, most (lunch) meals cost any where between $5-$15, and that adds up fast!  I normally only go to lunch if it is a networking event or if I am meeting someone.  Otherwise, I totally brown bag it and save my money and calories.  Besides, I would rather save that money for a meal that I can sit back and enjoy with friends instead of looking at my watch the whole time thinking about rushing back to the office.

2. Make Your Own Coffee... Skip the Lattes
Skimp on the lattes and invest in a good coffee maker.  Very similar to #1, you can save so much money by simply making your own coffee each morning before heading to work.  I splurge at coffee shops every now and then, but try my best to make it myself when possible.  I love coffee and sip on it each morning while I get ready. Coffee is an expensive habit that can add up fast if you don't watch it!  

3. Get a Library Card
One of my favorite money-saving tips is to sign up for a library card with your local public library.  Our local library is one of the best-kept secrets, and has so many of the newest and best-selling books I want to read. Rather than spend $20(ish) on each book, I will always check my library's online catalogue first to see if they carry the book(s) I am looking for.  Most of the time they do and I will just check it out online.  I read a lot, so this tip has saved me a lot of money!

4. Ditch Cable
Yes, I said ditch cable.  I don't have cable in my new house and I can assure you that I do not feel like I am missing out.  For one, I am not home enough to even watch T.V., plus, there is not much on that I care to even watch!  I would rather save that money for other expenses or traveling.  I do have basic Internet and can stream a lot of shows on various news sites or even YouTube and save myself a couple hundred bucks a month.  Totally worth ditching cable to save money!  

5. Live Beneath Your Means
Our society struggles with this one.  We live in an age where consumer credit card debt for "stuff" is the norm, and people want instant gratification from material things in order to "keep up with the Joneses".  I love fashion and designer handbags and shoes as much as the next gal, but it is not worth putting yourself in debt for!  Make a budget and stick to it and practice delayed gratification!  There is nothing wrong with not being able to afford designer items and saying no to dinner with friends at ridiculously expensive restaurants.  You will be so much better off in the long run and have more money for emergencies or other investments, including real estate.

Good morning!  I just returned from the best weekend in Charleston for my first blogger conference hosted by The Blog Societies.  Charleston is one of the most charming little cities I have ever visited.  If you have not been, I highly recommend it!  Everything was so cute and colorful, and there is so much to see and do.  When we were not in the conference, we had plenty of time to explore and got lots of shopping and eating at local restaurants in.    

Today's outfit is very much inspired by all of the pretty pink we saw in Charleston.  This pink pencil skirt is perfect for my summer work wardrobe, or, for any dressy occasion (church, brunch, showers, etc.).   I love pairing this outfit with bright pink lipstick for an extra pop of pink and to make it more feminine.  If you love pink as much as I do, you need this pink Mac lipstick.  It is my all-time favorite lipstick that I cannot live without!

First Home Must-Haves

Happy Friday!  One of the most fun things about buying a house is decorating.  Even though I purchased my first home two years ago, I am still picking out new pieces and making my house a home.  All of my walls are white, and I have a predominately black, white and gold color scheme, with occasional pops of pink.  I want my space to be timeless, classic and elegant, and reflective of my personal style.  

I have several of the above items (#4, #6, #7, and #9) in my house.  I want the rest, haha!  I recently ordered this gorgeous pink tufted velour couch and am obsessed!!  First of all, it is an amazing deal (less than $500), and adds some major pizzaz to my upstairs lounge.  It is so luxurious and Parisian!  It also folds back and converts into a bed, which is perfect for girls' nights or out of town guests.  I also ordered this gold and glass coffee table (#9) for my living room several months ago.  It is so classy and chic and looks amazing with my white couch and zebra rug!  I love how it has three layers.  I am constantly reorganizing it and changing out coffee table books and other little knick knacks and trinkets, including these gold coasters (#6).  These coasters are so pretty, and look great on this coffee table.  They look so fancy and add a little extra glam to your space.  They also make a great housewarming, hostess, or "just because" gift.
